He is a certified couple relationship trainer and sees a wide range of clients addressing men’s issues, anger management, abuse, and addiction; just to name a few. He is also a doctoral candidate at the University of North Texas in the Counseling and Higher Education Department. His Ph.D. research focuses on on couple relationships dialogue. The Emotionally Stunted Man
Whenever you are dealing with an emotionally stunted man you will never see him deal with it head on. There will be times when he is egocentric and selfish, but at the end of the day, their partners will have to do the heavy lifting in the relationship. From Von’s perspcective, there are a lot of things that can make a man emotionally stunted. But to make someone who they are, Von believe that genetics play a part. The second thing that makes someone themselves, are nature vs nature. Environment and experiences change how someone sees the world. Whenever there is emotional immaturity, it manifests differently. Bernadette inquires why men seem to take being cheated on more to heart than women. Von says that men aren’t as good as dealing with outward emotions.
The person who cares the least in the relationship typically has more power. Hate is addiction too, just like cocaine! Our brain hormones swirl when we are in romantic relationships, so our brain learns to want the “high!”
