Happy Thursday!
Today we have a great show in store for you filled with a powerhouse of female energy, so sorry Renaldo! Kip Watson is a longtime One Life Radio friend and is here to talk about grief during this pivotal time. Dr.Lori Whattley is back to discuss engaged parenting during the age of digital devices.
Kip Watson
Kip Watson is a Licensed Professional Counselor & Supervisor and Sports Psychology Professional. With nearly 20 years of experience with athletes, coaches, families, and corporate teams, Kip can do it all as a certified high performance coach. You can grieve for lost income, lost job, not being with friends, not going to school, etc.Your anxiety and sadness are normal feelings. How long we stay focused on this pain differs with everyone. First, don’t deny your feelings. Name them and claim them, but don’t let them own you. Bernadette says that you have to work through your feelings. It’s easy to turn to destructive activities to deal with your grief like alcohol, pornography, and drugs.Watson says to self-regulate your feelings, do your best to be optimistic and stay practicing gratitude. Own what has occurred, but don’t be a victim of your feelings and grief. Connect with your network of friends, church, or a professional, if needed. We have a belief that if we have anxiety and depression, there’s something wrong with us. That’s not the case. But, if you decide to stay in the grief, that’s where the problem lies, so change your beliefs to positivity!
Dr. Lori Whatley
Next we have Dr. Lori Whatley talking about managing our kid’s digital devices during COVID-19. Dr. Whatley says there are so many other ways to entertain our kids during quarantine. Dr. Whatley says to get your kids engaged! Plan a picnic and have your child help prepare the basket, food, drink, and time! Don’t let your kids have extra time on the internet just because of COVID-19.Dr. Whatley also stresses the importance of monitoring your child’s online presence on social media platforms. Unfortunately, it’s too easy for kids to find pornography, or be stalked by predators. Bernadette says that pornography is not a healthy way for our kids to learn about sexuality. Talk to your children about the internet, and be there for them if they have questions so they do not have to turn to the internet for answers.
