Zen Honeycutt and Dewone Bennett

Happy Thursday!

Happy Thursday everyone! We have a great show in store for you all. Today, we are grateful for our first amendment right for freedom of speech, as it allows us to speak the truth and educate the public, the very gist and heart of One Life Radio. We have 2 special guests today, Founder of Moms Across America, Zen Honeycutt is here! Dewone Bennett is back to discuss race.

Zen Honeycutt

Zen Honeycutt talks about ways to address the crazy feelings we may be having. She cites a book about food and behavior. She said studies of high school students showed that the ones who had the most mental issues, dropped out or failed were eating the most junk or processed foods. When the junk food was replaced by whole foods, the students excelled, the dropout rate dropped and more.Zen and her family takes recipes out of healthy cookbooks and each member makes a dish per night. It is a great way to eat as a family and try healthy recipes.Bernadette says to take a moment to learn about new foods and their benefits with your children, it is a great way to bond and teach. Bernadette was making cookies with her daughter to send to her Brother who is schizophrenic. Honeycutt says many schizophrenia patients have shown to be deficient in Vitamin C.Some solutions for junk food? Having a hot drink satiates your cravings for junk food. Try different teas. Instead of ice cream, try a frozen banana. Berries, dates and figs are great for a sweet tooth.Almond butter and honey is a great snack. Sauerkraut will take away cravings, too, and has great probiotics. For chips, try seaweed chips and snacks. And, if you’re craving salt, take a magnesium supplement.GMOs effect your gut health and should be avoided. Even farm animals instinctively avoid GMO crops. They can really effect your mental state. There are hundreds of studies on the effects of GMOs that you can find here, on Zen's website! Zen says sugar, corn, soy and canola are 85-100% GMO in the U.S. Make the swap and choose the healthier version! Your body will thank you!

Dewone Bennett

Licensed Professional Councilor Dewone Bennett is back discussing race. Renaldo and Dewone give their feelings as two African-American men on the use of racial slurs among their peers and outsiders. Bern is bold and asks about using the “n” word. Bennett says that it’s confusing how to use the word. Non-Black Americans should never use it, and he thinks African Americans shouldn’t really use it either unless it’s endearing and friendly, but they the right to the word belongs to African Americans, and they have the right to take back the word. It’s how the word is intended that is most important.Dewone has a new Facebook live group,“Braspective.” Braspective is an opportunity for Black American men to get together and talk about life, family and social issues. You can check it out on his Facebook page and gain some insight from someone who may not look or think like you! Bernadette and Dewone agree that hearing from a multitude of people with varying opinions on hot topics makes for good conversation and deepens understanding among varying crowds. We also touch on virtual therapy. Bennett says it’s enabled those who couldn’t get to therapy in person before to have access to therapists. He doesn’t see this as a trend during COVID, but here to stay.
