Von Eaglin and Zen Honeycutt

Happy Thursday!

Bernadette is out of breathe right from the start! She is just so excited for todays show! Von Eaglin is on at the half to talk about understanding vs empathy. But first, Zen Honeycutt of Mom's Across America!

Von Eaglin

Von Eaglin is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor and works with two group practices in the Dallas area. He is a certified couple relationship trainer and sees a wide range of clients addressing men’s issues, anger management, abuse, and addiction; just to name a few. He is also a doctoral candidate at the University of North Texas in the Counseling and Higher Education Department. His Ph.D. research focuses on on couple relationships dialogue. You can find him at his website or follow him on Instagram @VonTalks.

Understanding vs Empathy

Empathy is an intellectual test. There are four steps for empathy! Perspective taking is where you take the perspective of another person. Number 2 is staying out of judgement. You have to work towards staying out of judgement to understand the other persons feelings and struggles. 3 and 4 is recognizing emotions in other people, and being about to communicate. You need to try and ask a lot of open ended questions to understand the other person. For Bern, taking an intellectual interest in someone is love. Von says you should, but just because you love somebody doesn't mean you have the capacity to be empathetic towards them.Fun fact, women that complain more earlier in their relationships tend to have longer and better relationships. The more you know! Use "I feel" statements to complain. Avoid criticisms and over-generalizations. Avoid "You always" and "You never" because those are general and broad. Understanding and empathy are not the safe. Understanding shows you cognitively understand what the other person is trying to convey. Empathy takes something more in the listener. Empathy requires feeling for the other person and trying to feel with them, not just feel for them.

Zen Honeycutt and Moms Across America

Zen Honeycutt is an activist, speaker, author, and the founder and director of Moms Across America, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to educate and empower mothers and others with actions and solutions to create healthy communities. While heading Moms Across America, Zen initiated the first testing for glyphosate in tap water, breast milk, and urine and spearheaded the non-profit’s successful petition to Costco to remove Roundup from their shelves. She is the author of “UNSTOPPABLE: Transforming Sickness and Struggle into Triumph, Empowerment And A Celebration of Community.”

Are Online Remote Classes Harmful For Children?

Children are spending 3-5 hours a day on their laptops, even first graders! Children are especially vulnerable from EMFs coming from electronic devices. 33000 to 2.5 million microwaves per square meter. 10-100 is what is safe, for adults! Bernadette warns about microwaves well, and admits that she only uses her microwave as a bread box! The people who make the devices, so the microwaves, phones, etc, only look at certain periods of times for how they affect their users. We have to start mitigating the impact.Parents can take steps to make remote learning safer. You can buy shielded Ethernet cords and adapters for your phone and laptop that can be plugged into your router. Once you find the login information, you can log in to the ethernet safe website and toggle the settings to protect you and your children from dangerous EMF's. Click here to "Get Hard Wired" and find the steps to become safe from EMFs. Have you heard of Wifi on wheels? Wifi on Wheels is a truck that provides poor families with free wifi. Zen warns against these trucks because they could be harming children and their families.
