Happy Tuesday!

It's been a crazy day here at One Life Radio! We had a little bit of board problems, but we have persevered! We have a great show with Dr. Will Bulsiewicz and Bonnie Cook, so let's get started!

Dr. Will Bulsiewicz

Dr.Will Bulsiewicz is a board-certified, award-winning gastroenterologist with a degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. He was the chief medical resident at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the chief gastroenterology fellow at the University at North Carolina Hospital. Dr. Bulsiewicz completed 8 years of formal research training. His extensive research training combined with his award-winning clinical skills has made him an internationally recognized leader in digestive wellness and gut health. Dr. Bulsiewicz is the author of the book "Fiber Fueled," a bold new take on a plant-based approach that challenges popular keto and paleo diets.

Fiber and Weight Loss

Throw that diet plan out the window! In his book "Fiber Fueled," Dr. B wants to let people know that they can eat without restriction and still accomplish their weight loss goals. You too can eat beautiful, colorful, healthy foods and not have to follow strict diet rules! Dr. B used to be a connoisseur of hot dogs and bad food, and found himself at a crossroads with his own health, but now he has radically transformed himself and his diet! Dr. B says that he doesn't count how many grams of fiber he is getting daily. Count plants instead! Eating plants is not that difficult, so don't be afraid. Take a few vegetables that you really like and add some of your favorite spices to find a fiber fueled dish that you can make your go to.Grains are one of the foundational pieces for a healthy gut microbiome. Grains are probiotics that feed the bacteria in your gut! Don't toss your grains out, they are needed! Throwing out your grains can lead to heart attacks, so Dr. B says leave that brown rice! Bernadette asks Dr. B about the juice trend, and Dr. B says 100% of the time he would prefer a smoothie over a juice because a smoothie has the fiber. Great stuff here today with Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, we always love having him on!

Bonnie Cook

Bonnie is the CEO & President of Mental Health America of Greater Dallas. Prior to assuming this role in April, 2018 she was the executive director of Mental Health America of Kentucky. Bonnie has over 17 years experience working in the mental health field. She also serves on the Board of Directors of Mental Health America in Alexandria, Virginia.

World Mental Health Day

Our deepest condolences go out to Bonnie on the loss of her fur baby. Bernadette and Bonnie talk about what kind of dog they would be. Bernadette says she wouldn't want to be a Pomeranian because they talk too much. Bonnie says she would be a mutt. Great answer!World Mental Health Day is October 10th! Awareness for mental health first began in 1992. This recent pandemic has caused us to realize that mental health issues are very prominent world wide. We wouldn't wait till stage four to treat brain cancer, so we should not wait till stage four to treat our brains. We must seek help when we first start feeling affected by our brains chemistry in our day to day lives. The United States are high up on the list of countries with a high prevalence rate of mental health issues. There are some countries that are doing much better with addressing mental health. Germany is a great country for mental health, so let's go to Germany!Bonnie says to start talking about mental health at a much younger age to instill resilience. Bernadette says that children are overmedicated and deprived of enrichment here in the United States. The sooner that we start integrating our physical and mental health, the sooner we will be able to move forward.
