Fear & Shame: Uncovering the Ways They Hold Us Back

Whether we like it or not, we are still a product of what was created when we were growing up! If you were told a negative message as a child, that message can still resonate with you as an adult. You get to choose whether you believe what others tell you. You are in control of your own story and your own narrative! The people that have the hardest time moving on from negative self talk are the ones who have a serious trauma that they need to work through, so it is deep seeded. Fear is based in shame.Bernadette and Beth agree that children, even if they are adults, should forgive their parents for their past mistakes. Your parents probably patently you just like their parents did. Believe it or not, journaling will be your best bet for releasing yourself from the past. Once you learn to shift your thoughts, you will grow. As long as you are seeing your thoughts and coming up with that new story for yourself, you can grow and get better. If you are finding this impossible, you may need to see a therapist for further counseling.

Dewone Bennett

Dewone Bennett is a Licensed Professional Counselor with two masters degrees and over 12 years of counseling experience. He currently has his own practice, Dewone Bennett Counseling in Dallas, TX. He believes that the key to mental and behavioral success is the ability to master self-awareness and emotional control.

Managing Seasonal Affective Disorder

Seasonal affective disorder is a mood disorder characterized by depression that occurs at the same time every year. Seasonal affective disorder occurs in climates where there is less sunlight at certain times of the year. Symptoms include fatigue, depression, hopelessness, and social withdrawal. There can also be less sleep or more sleep in your life. How sad! Also, when we are sad we eat fattier, more carbo loaded foods that make us gain weight, and that makes us upset too! If can vary as to why S.A.D only affects some people and not others. If you are deficient in some chemicals already, S.A.D may get you more.
