Bern Had A Little Lamb
Okay so humans think they're so badass...they're so powerful...they're so superior right? In preparation for tomorrow’s show I am reading a book called “Cannabis Philosophy for Everyone” by Fritz Allhoff... fascinating stuff. He writes that elephants drug of choice is alcohol and that many of the palm trees that grow in their habitat bear fruit that ferment as they ripen. The elephants eat these fruits often competing to consume as many as possible in the shortest amount of time.Oh my gosh that sounds like a college student! Anyway, I think it's really fascinating as well that marijuana is also sought out by various animals. In Hawaii for example, cannabis farmers must protect their crops from horses and cows and in Eastern Europe the most voracious cannabis eaters are lambs! BaaaahhaaAnd in North America, deer are the greatest threat to marijuana crops who would have known?!And just when you start thinking that we're smarter than animals you hear stories like this amazing story from the book "Animal Wisdom: Learning From the Spiritual Life of Animals” by Linda Bender, DVM.OK, so this dog named Oly, was cross country skiing near Yellowstone national park with his owner Dave Galliard when an avalanche struck and he was lost. Rescuers assumed that the dog had been killed along with his owner. But, four days later Oly was found sitting outside the families motel room staring at the door, somehow he did survive and found his way back to the motel over a distance of 4 miles and he did this all without a cell phone or GPS! Oh my gosh how does a dog know? It's amazing and the stories are jaw-dropping in their sheer improbability.Allison Smith was our guest last week and she serves as an advisory board member for the American Mini Pig Association (A.M.P.A) and we talked about how smart pigs were, I wonder if they like weed too? -Bern
