Hello One Life Radio listeners! Dr. Lori Whatley joins us today to talk about the effects of social media on self-esteem. Listen to the podcast for ways to protect your children, and yourself, from the insecurity brought on from too much social media. Learn about social self-harming, vanity validation and why social media is turning people into narcissists.
Next, Von Eaglin defines defensiveness, and gives us real examples how it can help and harm our relationships. He says making excuses is the number one way to be defensive. Another way to be defensive is to argue about things you know you are wrong and try and blame the other person. A perfect example is when you say you’re late to a meeting because (insert excuse here). Von tells us we all have defense mechanisms and defensiveness to protect our ego. We need to learn how to self-soothe and learn to listen to criticism without getting too anxious. Listen to the show to learn ways to be less defensive. And, we all need to try and be less defensive online. The effects of social media on self-esteem are real, and we need to be conscious of what we say to ourselves and each other.
Thanks to Dr. Whatley and Von for coming on the show today! And, thank you to our sponsors enviromedica, Castor & Pollux, the ISSN, Vegworld Magazine, Paleo Magazine and the Well Being Journal.
