Today we are lucky enough to have Von Eaglin for the whole hour to talk about all the things he wishes he would have known before getting married. Stick around for a great time!
Von Eaglin
Relationship Expert
Von Eaglin is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor and works with two group practices in the Dallas area. He is a certified couple relationship trainer and sees a wide range of clients addressing men's issues, anger management, abuse, and addiction; just to name a few. He is also a doctoral candidate at the University of North Texas in the Counseling and Higher Education Department. His Ph.D. research focuses on couple relationships dialogue.
Von says that in all honesty his wife should have left him if he did not become a therapist. Both Junior and Von both got married at 24! Junior says it’s all about work, and that everyone wishes that they should have asked the right questions before having sex. Von says there is no such thing as friends with benefits. Casual sex is on the rise due to hookup apps. Men think about sex on average 6 times more a day. You need to do a few assessments before having sex with someone, and marry the. Do you trust them, can you be vulnerable, can you laugh with them are the kinds of questions Von asks his patients when they are thinking about marriage. Cue Salt-N-Pepa here! If you do not talk about sex with your partner before you marry, you will find trouble down the road. Bernadette says that children and sex surround the woman’s mind more when just having sex than the man. Statistically, (which is surprising) it is women that go outside their relationships and marriages to find other sexual adventures.
How someone treats the waitress is very telling of how they will treat you. Compromise is a big thing. Neither Junior or his Wife wanted to compromise in the beginning. But they just needed to talk everything out and realize what you are losing by getting married, but also what you are gaining as well. Then there are babies! Women have to change their bodies and the things they eat, and more! Marriage is such a tough topic, and the decision to go to counseling is a big one! Conflict is inevitable. If you are dating someone and they never take responsibility for their actions, they are not the right person. Sometimes, you have to create hypotheticals so you know if the hypothetical comes real, what you will do with your relationship.
