It’s Furry Friday! Dr. RuthAnn Lobos, head veterinarian of Castor & Pollux pet food is here to discuss pet allergies. Patti Dawson from Dallas DogRRR is here to talk about things to consider before surrendering your pets. Furry Friday is brought to you by Castor & Pollux Pet Food. As the leader and maker of America’s #1 organic pet food, Castor & Pollux has set a new standard with the most comprehensive portfolio of purposeful pet food.

Patti Dawson

Dallas DogRRR is a group of dedicated, animal loving volunteers who help rescue dogs in the South East Dallas area. Patti started volunteering with Dallas DogRRR in 2014 and began running the operations in January of 2016. When she’s not rescuing animals, Patti is a behavior specialist, wife and mom.

Things To Consider Before Surrendering Your Pet

Sometimes, families find themselves in situations where caring for an animal is no longer a possibility. Choosing to re-home a pet can be an incredibly difficult decision. The Fort Worth shelter is averaging 100 dogs getting surrendered a day now that it is summer. That is horrible. Dallas DogRRR will help you with whatever they can to help you keep your animal. They will help you find a foster, help with vet bills, food, and more. If you adopt an animal, you need to stand by your decision. Never abandon your animal, at least try alternatives first. Click here for alternatives.

Dallas DogRRR recently came across one of their worst animal cruelty cases ever. Click here to read it and get a fire under your butt to start advocating for those who can’t speak for themselves.

She is an avid marathoner and triathlete and proud mama to three active pups, Rigolets, Stella and Finn.

Pet Allergies

There are lot of misunderstandings on what kind of allergies pets can have. The most common allergy is called Flea Allergy Dermatitis. Flea allergy dermatitis is the allergic reaction to flea saliva after the flea bites your pet. Cats and dogs become itchy all over but especially on the base of their tail. It can cause their skin to swell, turn red and they may develop sores and scabs. Examples of common allergens are pollens, mold spores, dust mites, shed skin cells (similar to pet allergies in humans), insect proteins such as flea saliva, and some medications. Only 4-6 percent of pets out there actually have food allergies. This, however, can be tainted by treats or flavored medicines.
