Meta-Cognition

Meta-Cognition is all about the science behind spirituality. Meta-Cognition is an awareness of one's own thought processes and an understanding of the patterns behind them. It is very similar to intuition, or even your inner voice, but the scientific angle of it. It is being able to take all the thoughts in your head and instead of them letting them get trapped, using the thoughts to make your life better and invoke change. It’s a neat concept because we are not often taught that we have control over our racing thoughts, but we do! Examples of metacognitive activities include planning how to approach a learning task, using appropriate skills and strategies to solve a problem, and even manage pain. You can absolutely control pain and talk yourself out of things like headaches and migraines. Of course if you break your pelvis, you will feel real pain, but if you are feeling back tightness or having a horrible headache, you can meditate to slip into a state that your body relaxes and relieves pain. An example of Meta-Cognition in real life is categorizing in your head whatever you need to do, and put it away in your brain to attack it in the morning on paper. Notice your breathe while you do this. Autumn’s favorite way to do this is repeating the mantra “I am.”

Safe Sun Protection

You really only need between 5-30 minutes of sunlight twice a week to get the sunlight that you need for a whole week. When choosing a sunscreen, always avoid chemically based sunscreens. In chemical sunscreens, avoid avobenzone, oxybenzone, ecamsule and octocrylene – all are part of a dozen that the FDA recently said needed to be researched by manufacturers before they could be considered “generally regarded as safe and effective.” What you want is a PHYSICAL sunscreen.  Zinc non-nano techonology is what you want to look for.  This acts as a physical barrier kind of like a mirror that sits on top of the skin. Protecting your eyes is also just as important as protecting your skin! UV radiation from the sun can damage not only the skin of your eyelid but also the cornea, lens and other parts of the eye. UV exposure also contributes to the development of certain types of cataracts, growths on the eye and possibly macular degeneration.
