What Is Love?
Love should be so obvious. But people often thing about romantic love instead of unconditional love that can exists in many different boxes, realms, or fields. It is not always romantic. Love is still sticking with someone when they are in their darkest times. Love needs to be rooting in something lasting, and not something that may be simply fueled by hormones for about 6 months into a relationship. Always show up as who you truly are, because the truth will always come out. Even if your truth may be ugly for a time, do not hide it with someone you love or want to end up loving for a long time. If they stick around after seeing you at rock bottom and offer a helping hand, they love you. In Ancient Greece, the feeling of love was so hard to define that philosophers broke it down in 4 categories to try and characterize it. Those 4 categories were storge, phila, eros, and agape. Storge was usually defined as the love between family members like siblings and parents. Phila was defined as the love between best friends. Eros was more of your classic romantic love. Finally, agape was known as divine love.
Love is not just a chemical reaction; initially, it may be. We have something called buyer’s remorse where we think we are in love and the honeymoon phase ends and we wish we could return that package to the post office. When the honeymoon phase is over, you can really recommit and look in-towards and find yourself while your partner finds themselves. Once you each are independent from our partner but still feel butterflies, that is love. Love can be challenging; arguing is normal, emotional conversational and vulnerability are necessary. Love has many different descriptions. Love can simply be feeling secure. As Berg explains it, “Unconditional love makes us feel safe and supported. It encourages us to pursue those things in life that are meaningful to us. Sometimes all you need is someone to believe in you when it’s too hard to believe in yourself. Love is the nourishment that humans need to fulfill their greatness.”

How Hopeworks is Breaking the Cycle of Poverty and Violence through Trauma-Informed Education
Hopeworks is solving the problem of young people that other organizations deem “unemployable”, ”not ready,” or “too difficult” – youth who have been failed by the educational system and social system, and who are left out of the growing economy. Hopeworks 'N Camden is an American nonprofit founded in 2000 to assist Camden, New Jersey youths ages 14–25 to return to school and to achieve gainful employment. In 1999 members of three churches in north Camden, one of the most crime-ridden areas in the nation, came together and organized the Hopeworks program. The original concept was to offer training to high school dropouts. With startup grants from the Campbell Soup Company and the Society of Jesus, Hopeworks opened its doors to the first trainees in March 2000, and started its non-profit website design business. In 2012, amidst a high drop-out rate in the program, Hopeworks became a certified Sanctuary organization with a "trauma" framework. We believe that without addressing the unresolved traumatic issues in a youth's life--especially as they manifest in habitual patterns of protection--disengagement, disconnected emotional state, anger, emotional eruptions-- youth will not be able to take full advantage of opportunities in their lives. Hopeworks believes in healing trauma from both parts of the brain, and shutting down the reacting mode and activating the thinking mode. They really teach youth to handle their emotions in a healthy way and give them opportunities that others may not or will not give them.
