Tina Bernet Allen

Tina has been in the fitness industry for over 25 years, instructing and developing resistance training programs for individuals and groups. Her love of fitness began as one of the original Highland Park Belles drill team members. She has a Bachelor’s of Kinesiology and is certified in strength and conditioning as well as biomechanics. Tina was awarded the “Top Female Personal Trainer in DFW” by the Personal Trainers Hall of Fame. She is a rock-star in the fitness world and a Dallas icon.
How to Instill a Love of Fitness in Your Children
Tina decided fitness was going to be her career from a young age. She was in athletics and saw her father do sports from a young age. It was really in High School when Tina got into working out and even started teaching aerobics during her senior year! Kinesiology is the study of human movement! Kinesiology is defined primarily as the use of muscle testing to identify imbalances in the body's structural, chemical, and emotional energy. It is a must for being the precursor to being a personal trainer because all bodies are different!
Bernadette, candidly admitted that she was depressed before her workout yesterday with Tina. She is exuding energy over the airwaves now! Tina says bottom line, for children, lead by example. Take your kids on bike rides, walks, anything, but you have to do it with them. Tina let her kids find what they enjoyed in the fitness industry. From triathlons to motocross, you have to let them find their passion. Bernadette talks about taking her first child on runs and walks in joggers from a young age. Remember, all children are different. Some may be more studious and like low impact workouts, while others may workout on their own.

How Dr. Jonny Started In Fitness
Bernadette talks about how she started in the restaurant business and then into the float business. Dr. Jonny was actually a professional musician back around Woodstock! He grew up in sex, drugs, and rock and roll. As the main accompanist in a music school, he eventually chose psychology over music. Dr. Jonny got into health and fitness when he got his masters and felt like he couldn’t do psychology and music well. He could not do both. You have to listen to get this wild story! With the musicians, he started following them to the gym, and he slowly was taught exercise. He took to it like a kid in a candy store. Eventually, he started at equinox gym! Dr. Jonny goes deeper into how he learned about nutrition through trial and error, and watching the change of the times. When the Atkins diet made a comeback and people were getting results, Dr. Jonny and other trainers were confused. There is such an entrenched idea of low fat, etc that is embedded into society. Listen to the whole show to get the full story from Dr. Jonny and be sure to tune in next time he is on to get the rest of the story.
