Dr. Mike McFarland

Transitioning to Post Pandemic Life

The CDC is reporting that the number of infections in the US are on a slight increase, yet deaths are decreasing. Dr. McFarland is saying that we are really focusing more on health as a nation because of coronavirus. The CDC has now relaxed the 6 foot social distancing rule for children, but has remained firmed on the 6ft distance for adults. A pandemic is an epidemic that's spread over multiple countries or continents. Endemic is something that belongs to a particular people or country. An outbreak is a greater-than-anticipated increase in the number of endemic cases. Dr. Mike says we are transitioning from a pandemic into an endemic, and we will be living with the virus for years to come.

No one can guarantee us a risk free life. We need to know ourselves and decide whether or not to wear a mask. People have become more lax, but we have to respect who to listen to and when to listen to ourselves.

Over the past year, we have seen an increase in depression by far. Due to the election, quarantine, and even more, financial stress has played a part in stress as well. We need stimulation, variety, and some interest in our lives. It terms of socializing, start small. Whether that is a dinner party at one’s house, or happy hour at a bar outside, honor your own feelings. Practice self compassion. Cut yourself some slack, and make sure you are always comfortable.
