Kathleen Harward - Identity Politics on College Campuses #1998
In Kathleen Harward’s 14 years as the Director of Student Legal Services at a University in her town, she saw identity politics take over the mission. In our conversation today, Kathleen helps us to understand the current climate at universities today that is causing students to become divisive and accusatory towards other students. And, disciplinary actions are being taken against the accused students before they are given their right to due process. She says the climate on campus has become counterproductive to learning, and unless things change, parents should think twice before sending their child to college.
She is an author and publisher of unique, illustrated children’s books. She founded Brandy Pie Book Company, just two years ago. Before this, she was a career-long attorney, practicing law first in California and then in Colorado. For 14 years, until the end of 2020, she was the Director of Student Legal Services at the university in her city. In her role as a campus lawyer for students, she helped thousands of young adults with a variety of legal issues. She was also very involved in university processes. What she experienced and saw happened to the university mission and culture over that time, and the harm to students led her to leave and begin creating children’s books with a purpose.
