Linda Hullibarger takes on priest who presided over her son's funeral #926
We have a very special guest on today's show, Linda Hullibarger, mother of Maison Hullibarger who passed away last month. Hullibarger has been in the media recently from CNN to the New York Times because of the treatment she and her husband received from the priest before and during her son's funeral. Her son Maison passed away in December and according to Hullibarger, was condemned at the funeral by the priest rather than celebrated for his 18 years of life.
Hullibarger wants listeners to know her story to hopefully help someone else in a similar situation. Since the funeral, she has received letters and emails from other parishioners who had similar experiences with Fr. Don LeCuesta at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Temperance, Michigan. Hullibarger contends that Fr. LeCuesta used her son's funeral for his own agenda, going against her and her husband's wishes and delivering a homily condemning taking one's own life as a sin and essentially calling her son a sinner.
This is a heart-wrenching story, but an important one that raises questions about religion, faith and compassion.
Daniel Tague talks about a recent article in Paleo Magazine about how we shouldn't ignore Incidental movement in our overall exercise, but make it part of our wellness regime. A few examples we discuss include climbing stairs, walking your dog, parking your car at the edge of your parking lot and more. Paleo Magazine is one of our sponsors and every issue is full of great information.
