A headache and a migraine are two extremely different things. Those that suffer from migraines regularly can't even go about their day-to-day lives normally. Shawn Wells joins us today to talk about what a migraine is and why you may be having them. He also offers advice on how to get rid of them or at least ease the pain. Here are some shocking statistics:

  • Migraine is the 3rd most prevalent illness in the world.

  • Nearly 1 in 4 U.S. households includes someone with migraine.

  • Amazingly, 12% of the population – including children – suffers.

  • 18% of American women, 6% of men, and 10% of children experience them.

  • Migraine is most common between the ages of 18 and 44.

  • It tends to run in families. About 90% of sufferers have a family history of migraine.

  • Most people don’t realize how serious and incapacitating it can be.

  • Migraine is the 6th most disabling illness in the world.

  • Every 10 seconds, someone in the U.S. goes to the ER complaining of head pain, and approximately 1.2 million visits are for acute migraine attacks.

  • While most sufferers experience attacks once or twice a month, more than 4 million people have chronic daily migraine, with at least 15 days per month.

  • More than 90% of sufferers are unable to work or function normally during their migraine.

This just shows that a lot of people are suffering without relief. Shawn tells us in this episode diet changes, like a ketogenic diet, have been shown to give relief up to 90 percent. He also talks about supplements and other things that will hopefully help if you or someone you know is suffering. Shawn Wells is a long-time expert guest of One Life Radio. Self-talk is extremely powerful because you are essentially telling your brain how to work that day. If you wake up in the morning and say "today is going to be terrible," then most likely you're not going to have the best day. This can change with positive self-talk. When you wake up and take the day head on it can get you one step closer to reaching your goals.
