Science of Happiness, Human Contact Now a Luxury? #1026

HappinessEveryone wants to be happy. I don't think there is a single person on earth that desires unhappiness. This episode we have Dr. Leanne Young, she is the executive director of the Brain Performance Institute. Dr. Young talks with us about what happiness truly is, how you can find it, and why you may be having trouble experiencing happiness. A lot can get in the way of being happy, and shockingly even genetics play a part in happiness. She also talks about whether or not diet plays a part, and if you should take pharmaceuticals to help.Human contact and relationships contribute to our happiness as well. Dr. Mike McFarland is also in studio with us today. He is a licensed psychologist who provides individual therapy to adolescents through adulthood. Today we talk about how human contact is actually considered a luxury good. This may or may not be shocking to you, but it is very sad either way. To think that some people go through life without much human contact is heart-breaking. Is it social media and our phones that have driven us apart? Can we always blame it one that? Dr. Mike dives into the psychology of why we may be feeling more and more isolated. He also talks about screen time for both kids and adults.
