Medicaid is an income based health insurance or for those with disabilities. When you receive this type of insurance, it can make finding a provider who will work with you on vaccines a little bit more difficult. These providers receive funding from the government, therefore they usually will be following strict guidelines. Sadly vaccines are an industry in themselves and if you aren't abiding by the CDC's schedule, you may get discriminated against. This effects these lower income families who may not have all the information to make an informed decision. Medical Doctors are even told not to give out that information. Providers have started turning people away or not seeing them based on their vaccine status. Jackie Schlegel is the founder and executive director for the organization Texans for Vaccine Choice. She talks to us about this and how she is fighting this discrimination at the state capitol.
