It's FURRY FRIDAY and Memorial Day Weekend! We've got Maura Davies of the SPCA of North Texas discussing virtual pet adoption, Gabrielle Reyes, aka "One Great Vegan" on veganism heading mainstream, and Cody Myler gives us first-hand tales from gym reopenings in Texas as COVID-19 restrictions lift.
Virtual Pet Adoptions
Maura Davies is here on “Furry Friday”, sponsored by Ned CBD, telling us how to virtually adopt a pet. You can now go online to adopt your next furry friend. Davies says you'll find detailed histories of each pet along with videos, health and behavioral issues and more. They will also set up one-on-one meetings for pets with special needs. The SPCA takes all of the same precautions with virtual pet adoption as they do with on-location adoptions. So, if you’re looking for a new furry friend this Furry Friday, check out their website and virtually adopt! And, visit NED Full-Spectrum Hemp Oils for their full product line that can be used for you and your pet.
Is Plant-Based Eating Mainstream?
Next, we have the “One Great Vegan”, Gabrielle Reyes, discussing if plant-based eating is going mainstream. Reyes is in the middle of preparing vegan fried chicken when we talk. What's in this fantastic recipe, you ask? You'll have to listen to the interview to find out. (teaser, sorry) Reyes became vegan after a college tailgate of burgers, hot dogs and more - all wrapped in bacon. She woke up ill the next day and knew she needed a change. Reyes had heard of veganism, and decided to try it. She’s never looked back.Reyes calls the COVID-19 epidemic “the end of meat”. Workers in factory farms are dying of the virus in record numbers and people are starting to take notice. Another reason veganism is going mainstream is the help from celebrities such as Beyonce and Billie Eilish. Oprah is launching a virtual wellness tour, including "Meatless Mondays". Reyes goes on to say that plant-based eating has everything we need, protein, vitamins, fats, etc. If you don’t follow a plant-based lifestyle, consider trying it for one day a week. We'd love to hear how it goes! Learn more about Gabrielle on her website onegreatvegan.com or on instagram @onegreatvegan.
Opening Gyms After Quarantine
Cody Myler talks about gyms reopening in Texas as restrictions are lifted. Myler owns NXT Rep Fitness, and he says it’s been a slow burn opening, but going well so far. We ask what's changed for gyms under the new rules. Myler lists a few examples, such as gloves are mandatory, but masks aren’t. The showers and dressing rooms are off limits, but bathrooms are available. For those heading back to the gym for the first time, he recommends bringing water, hand sanitizer, clean gloves and towels. Also, come dressed to work out and shower at home before and after your workout. Myler's tip for those coming back; take it easy on your first workout. He's seen more than a few push hard the first day and suffer consequences later. Just be prepared for some soreness afterwards. Check out Cody's gym, NXT Rep Fitness on facebook, or visit his One Life Radio Expert Guest page.
