Scott Miners and Shawn Wells

Today we are joined by Scott Miners, the founder and editor of the Well Being Journal, and Shawn Wells, Keto expert and the World's Greatest Formulator.

Inside Look at the Summer Issue of the Well Being Journal

Scott and the Well Being Journal have been long-time partners of One Life Radio. Miners and his team recently made the decision to  publish  quarterly, and we have a first glance into the summer issue. Here are Scott's top picks:Love and Immunity: It’s an Inside Job, by Shannon McRae, PhD. - Bernadette and Scott talk about the basis of this article, making yourself vulnerable and able to receive love. The more open you are, the more love you give and receive. You must FEEL your love for yourself before you can truly love others. If you seek love and acceptance from outside sources, you’ll always be looking.Next, How Our Thoughts Control Our DNA - by Bruce Lipton, PhD. This article is a culmination of three articles. Lipton writes that what we think and feel, our genetic make-up is listening. When we're nervous about something, real or perceived, our bodies go into fight or flight mode. This state of being compromises our immune system. Miners says we need to always be conscious of our thinking. In other words, “Think about Thinking”.Third on the list is Parenting Your Body by Melissa Milne, LMT, CPT. Milne writes about sitting and the effect on our bodies. Sitting for a long time can affect our joints and muscles, especially ham strings. The Healing Power of Silence and Solitude by Susan Smith Jones, PhD. We all need to take time for ourselves regularly, but in silence. Shut all the noise off and relax. Go in a closet, if you have to. Find space for silence and solitude and take a few minutes to regroup.Last on the list, Release Your “Shoulds” by Samantha Acton. This is an excerpt from her book regarding how we use “shoulds” too often. Try “can” or “can’t" and be decisive.Read these articles and much more in the Summer edition of the Well Being Journal. You can find them at Sprouts, Whole Foods and Natural Grocer. And, if you're a first-time reader, you can get a free sample issue on their site.

Keto, the Media and MCTs

Shawn Wells joins us next. He is a long-time guest of the show and is an expert in the fields of performance nutrition, longevity, fitness and supplementation. He's an unbelievable wealth of knowledge. Today we’re talking about Keto, MCTs and the media pushback on the Keto diet during COVID-19.  Wells says many of the news stories about the virus are false, even from mainstream media. Wells goes on to say that the articles regarding a Keto diet being dangerous during COVID-19 are false as well, either citing wrong food combinations, ratios or using bad fats. He says to research on our own so you can make informed decisions about your health. On to MCTs. Fats are the number one food source in a Keto diet plan.  The type of fat is imperative in a successful Keto diet plan. MCTs are a type of fat used often when starting a Keto regimen due to quick absorption. Because our bodies are used to using carbs for energy,  introducing fats and essentially deleting carbs can result in the “Keto flu”, in other words, feeling sluggish and tired while your body adjusts. Using MCTs can help your body adapt more quickly to using fat as fuel.MCTs naturally create ketones, so they are good for anyone, not just those on a Keto diet. MCTs actually suppress your glucose levels and burn fat. Wells recommends trying them in your morning coffee to feel clear and energetic throughout the day.To learn more about Shawn Wells, visit his website.
