Tina Bernet - Fat Loss vs. Weight Loss and Gabrielle Reyes - Vegan Kitchen Must-Haves
Fat Loss vs. Weight Loss
Are you a fat loss thinker or a weight loss thinker? Tina Bernet says there's a difference between measuring fat loss and weight loss. If you only count calories and go by the number on the scale, you may be doing more harm than good. Bernet says calories shouldn’t be your main focus. When you’re eating the right foods, you can eat more calories, but still lose weight. A donut has the same amount of calories as a chicken breast, but that doesn’t mean it’s OK to eat. To build muscle mass, you need proteins and amino acids, not empty calories. Consider what you're eating and when you're eating it. For instance, eating protein and fat at breakfast will keep you feeling full into the afternoon. Carbs, found in cereals and breads, will wear off quickly. You'll be hungry soon, or suffer carb crash and fall asleep at your desk. Forget the scale and stop counting calories. Vegan Kitchen "Must-Haves"
Chef Gabrielle Reyes, owner of One Great Vegan, joins us with her advice for stocking a vegan pantry. Here's a sample of her "must-have" items for a vegan or plant-based kitchen:
chickpeas (use the juice called Aquafaba for an egg substitute!)
sweet potatoes
quinoa
onion
veggie broth
coconut oil (or your favorite oil)
nutritional yeast
Celery juice (drink in the morning for energy throughout the day)
Reyes says that if you begin every meal with some oil and onions, the inspiration will come and finish the rest. In other words, don't overthink it, have fun and sing while you cook!Be sure and check out Reyes' weekly musical cooking show, “The Colorful Home Cooking Show”, where she shares her favorite recipes and tips to create vibrant dishes through music and song.
