Jill Lane: Food Preservation, Hydration, Afternoon Slump #1084

Food Preservation and Hydration

Today is a mash-up with Jill Lane. We cover topics including: food preservation tips, back to school supplements for stress relief, staying hydrated without water, and avoiding the afternoon slump.

Jill Lane is a pro-athlete health and nutrition coach. She is also a long time OLR regular with so much knowledge on nutrition for performance and overall health. One common misconception about food preservation is with washing your produce. Do you wash when you bring it home, or right before you eat? Where in the fridge is the proper place for fruits and veggies? Food waste is such a problem here in the United States, it's estimated that almost 40% of our food gets thrown in the trash. Jill gives us tips to help us preserve our food so that it is not being wasted because of mold or not being eaten.

Next we talk about back to school supplements for stress relief. This applies to parents, teachers, and kids. The beginning of the school year is a hectic and busy time, self-care can sometimes fall on the back burner. In this Take 5 Daily blog you can shop some of the amazing supplements recommended by Thorne to help keep your stress levels at bay.
Staying hydrated...without water? For some, drinking the recommended daily amount of water is extremely difficult. Or simply, you may just not like water. There are other ways to get hydrated, this blog explains it all for you.
So, 3 o'clock hits and the headache sinks in, you feel like you hit a wall. This is something that is oh, so common among most of us. Working an 8-12 hour shift and making sure you don't crash usually involves lots of coffee/Red Bull/Monster, take your pick. Jill talks to us about how to handle the afternoon slump as well as the root of what might be causing it in the first place.
