Catching up after the Legislative Session with The Texas Humane Legislation Network

Bernadette asks what it is like for Stacy, and other people trying to do their civic duty, to access legislators and their staff. Stacy says you basically get an elevator pitch, time wise to get your point, and bill across. Good news! The Texas Legislature has passed SB 474 by Chair Nicole Collier (D-Dallas) and Senator Eddie Lucio Jr. (D-Brownsville) out of both chambers. A top legislative priority for the Texas Humane Legislation Network (THLN), the Safe Outdoor Dogs bill will establish basic standards of shelter and care for dogs left outdoors and provide much-needed clarification to existing law to promote the safety of animals and the people around them. The legislation also ensures dogs have access to drinkable water and can move around without being trapped in standing water or any other dangerous substance. Along with preventing exposure to extreme weather, the legislation strikes the 24-hour waiting period in the current statute. This will allow law enforcement to address critical situations immediately before tragedy happens.

Infertility Causes and Treatments

In order to have a baby, you need, an egg, some sperm, and a proper attachment of the fertalized ovum to the uterine wall. The causes of infertility, 1/3 it is sperm problem, 1/3 of the time it is an egg problem, and 1/3 of the time, infertility is unknown. Irregular periods can be a sign of infertility in women. For men, you can not just look at the ejaculate to determine if a man is having fertile sperm issues. Chlamydia can actually block your tubes, so looking at someone’s past sexual history is important. Most couples get pregnant within a year if they are actively trying. Dr. Zaher says the best way to track ovulation is by purchasing the ovulation test kits from the over the counter pharmacies.

Approaching fertility holistically to Dr. Merhi is more than just pumping someones body full of medications and injections. The first successful IVF 40 years was actually done without medication or injections. Diet plays a large part as well. If you are eating a lot of poor quality food, or are overweight, this is a reflection of your health. Stress can also cause a woman to not ovulate and release an egg, so infertility can be environmental too. Take it slow and remember that your body DOES know what to do, some times good things just take time.
